Custom socks
with your logo

Socks in your own design for an attraction's gift shop: your logo or pattern knitted in or printed, on crew, quarter, ankle or knee-high socks in your yarn colours. Each pair carries its fibre content and "Made in China" on the sock or its pack, and the order is planned back from the day the socks have to be on your shelves.

At a glance

Knitted in or printed, crew or knee-high: the socks a gift shop sells

A custom sock carries your logo or pattern in one of two ways. Knitted in, the design is part of the knit, worked in your yarn colours, and suits bold shapes, stripes and repeating patterns. Printed, the design goes onto the finished sock and suits fine detail and full-colour artwork. Either way, the sock comes in the length your shop sells, crew, quarter, ankle or knee-high, with a cuff stripe or a contrast heel and toe if you want them, and it can be ordered with knit beanies in the same yarn colours.

Used for

  • Socks in a venue's own design on the gift-shop shelf, beside its beanies, blankets and plush
  • A season edition for a Christmas light attraction, a ski area, a zoo or a park, with new colours or a new pattern each year
  • A matching set: socks and a knit beanie in the same yarn colours
  • Socks in the venue's colours for the staff who work the season

Bought by

  • Venues and attractions that sell their own design in their own shops
  • Merchandise managers who plan the season's range with the rest of the order
  • Not a fit: a few dozen socks needed next month, or a single pair with a photo printed on it as a gift

Materials

  • The fibre named on the spec and on the label: cotton, polyester, nylon, acrylic or wool, with the elastic named too
  • Cotton only with its origin traced back to the bale before you commit
  • The factory's written declaration on the chemistry of its yarn and inks
  • The test paperwork the fibre calls for, discussed and agreed with you before you commit

Options

  • Your logo or pattern knitted in, or printed
  • Crew, quarter, ankle or knee-high, in the adult sizes your shop sells
  • Yarn colours matched to the Pantone references you send
  • A cushioned sole, a contrast heel and toe, or a stripe at the cuff
  • Matching beanies knitted in the same yarn colours

Packaging

  • A header card or band on each pair, carrying the label details, for a peg hook or a shelf
  • Your barcode or SKU label on every pack
  • Pairs bundled or boxed as sets
  • Cartons marked with the design, the size and the count

Socks as part of a gift shop range

Socks often sit beside beanies, throws, cups and plush in the same design. The gift shop merchandise guide covers which items are worth making in your own design, what each one carries before it ships, and how to order the range a season ahead.

Before you ask

What goes on the spec sheet for custom socks

These are the fields we ask you for. The factory quotes against them and knits or prints to them, so a fuller sheet brings the first quote closer to the real one.

  • Knitted in or printed

Knitted in, the design is part of the knit, in your yarn colours. Printed, it goes onto the finished sock and can carry finer detail. The sample shows which suits your artwork.

  • Style and length

Crew, quarter, ankle or knee-high, in the adult sizes your shop sells, with a cushioned sole, a contrast heel and toe or a cuff stripe if you want them. Sizes for children 12 and under are quoted only as a children's product.

  • Fibre

Cotton, polyester, nylon, acrylic or wool, with the elastic named. The fibre decides the label and the test paperwork, so it is named on the spec before the sample. Cotton is traced back to the bale before you commit.

  • Yarn colours and artwork

Your logo file, a Pantone reference for each yarn, and where the design sits: the leg, the cuff or the sole. A knitted-in design is drawn stitch by stitch, so fine lines may be simplified.

  • Label and pack

The fibre content, "Made in China", your name or RN number and care instructions, on the sock or on its header card or band, with your barcode.

  • Matching pieces

Beanies or scarves in the same yarn colours, ordered together and signed off side by side.

  • Designs and quantities

Each design, length and size, how many of each, and whether it is a season edition or a design you keep.

  • Dates and delivery

The day the socks must be on your shelves, the delivery address, and whether there is a loading dock.

Price

What sets the price of custom socks

We do not publish a sock price. It turns on the yarn, the length, how the logo goes on, the packing and how many pairs you order of each design, so you get a landed cost, line by line.

Request a quote

  1. The yarn

Cotton, polyester, nylon, acrylic or wool, and the blend. The fibre also decides the label and the test paperwork.

  2. Length and knit

Crew, quarter, ankle or knee-high, and whether the sole is cushioned or the heel and toe are in a contrast colour.

  3. The design

Knitted in or printed, how many yarn colours it uses, and whether it covers the leg, the cuff or the whole sock.

  4. Sizes

How many adult sizes you sell, and how the order splits between them.

  5. Packing

Loose by the carton, or each pair on a header card or band, or boxed as a set, with a barcode for the shop.

  6. How many of each design

Each design and colourway is set up once, and that setup is spread over every pair in the run.

  7. Landing at your shop

Ocean freight, the customs entry and delivery to your door, each on its own line of the quote.

Itemised on the quote, hidden in a unit price

  • A pre-production sample, if the quote includes one, and any changes before you approve it
  • The test paperwork your fibre calls for, where it applies
  • Header cards, bands, boxes and barcode labels, if the socks go straight onto the shelf
  • The broker's fees for the customs entry, and delivery from the port

Timing

Work back from the day the socks go on your shelves

We do not publish a production window for socks. The steps run from your artwork to the knitting or print file, a sample, your changes and sign-off, then the run, the packing and the crossing. The fibre and the paperwork it calls for are settled before the sample. Plan socks with the season: the quote in spring, the sample signed off over the summer, and the socks shipped with the season's containers.

How the date is set

The date your order has to be placed comes from the day the socks have to be on your shelves.

  1. Tell us the socks, the quantity and the day they have to be in your shop.
  2. We work back through the artwork, the sample, the run, the packing and the crossing, and tell you the date the order has to be placed.
  3. The landed quote follows, itemised line by line.

How we work, step by step

What goes wrong

Before the sample: the fibre, the label and who the socks are for

Three things go on the spec sheet before anything is knitted. First, the fibre of every yarn, because it decides what the label says and what test paperwork the socks need. That paperwork is discussed and agreed with you before you commit, and any cotton is traced back to the bale. Second, the label: the fibre content, "Made in China" and your name or RN number, on each pair or once on the pack. Third, who the socks are for. Adult sizes are the default; sizes for children 12 and under are quoted only as a children's product, with a CPSC-accepted lab's report on the exact sock before it ships. No sock carries a pom-pom, bell, bow or sewn-on badge. This is general information, and your broker or counsel can confirm what your goods need.

Common failures

  • Yarn colours that drift from the Pantone references on the approved sample
  • A logo with more detail than the knit can carry, so it blurs
  • Socks that run a size small against the size on the pack
  • A pack missing the fibre content or "Made in China", found only when the cartons reach the shop
  • Cotton yarn with no record of where it was grown, found only after the order is paid
  • A pom-pom or badge sewn on, which comes off in the wash

Buyer mistakes

  • Artwork with fine lines and small lettering, which a knitted-in design cannot hold
  • No barcode plan, so the socks get labelled by hand in the stockroom
  • A team's, sponsor's or licensor's mark on the artwork without their written approval

Inspection checklist

  • The run checked against the approved sample: the yarn colours, the design and where it sits
  • Pairs from the run measured against the size on the pack
  • Labels and packs checked for the fibre content, "Made in China" and your name or RN number
  • Barcodes checked against your shop's instructions
  • Carton counts and marks checked, and photos taken before the cartons are sealed

Shipping and entry

How it gets to you

  • Shipped by sea from China in cartons, on their own or in one shipment with the rest of your order
  • Socks often travel with beanies, blankets and other merchandise, or with a light attraction's season of lights
  • A customs broker files the entry when the shipment lands
  • Delivered from the port to your shop, warehouse or venue, with or without a loading dock

Each step of the landing is priced on your socks and set out on the quote. How that works Add up a landed cost

What we do on an order like this

  • We turn your artwork, your choice of sock and the way you sell it into a spec sheet that the factory quotes and works to.
  • Before you commit, the fibre of every yarn is named on the spec, and the test paperwork that fibre calls for is discussed and agreed with you. For cotton, we ask for its origin traced back to the bale and the yarn mill named.
  • Your logo goes on only with your written authorisation, and any other mark only with its owner's.
  • You approve the sample. We check the run against it before it is packed, import the socks and deliver them to you.

How we work and how we make money

Questions

Asked before ordering custom socks

How much do custom socks cost?

It depends on the yarn, the length, whether the logo is knitted in or printed and in how many colours, the packing, how many pairs you order of each design, and the freight and customs entry. We do not publish a sock price. The quote puts each of those on its own line, and the landed cost calculator on this site adds them up.

Where can I find custom socks for my business?

Promotional suppliers sell stock socks with a logo printed on, which suits an event that needs them soon. Socks in your own design, yarn colours and packing are made to order, which suits a shop that plans its season months ahead. We run that second route with factories in China, import the socks and deliver them to you.

Are the logos knitted in or printed?

Either. A knitted-in design is part of the knit: each yarn colour runs along inside the sock where it does not show, so it suits bold shapes, stripes and repeating patterns. A printed design goes onto the finished sock and suits fine detail and full-colour artwork. Send the artwork, tell us which you have in mind, and the sample shows how it reads.

What goes on the label of a pair of socks?

As general information: US rules ask for the fibre content by generic name and percentage, the country of origin, and the name or RN number of the company that sells or imports them. The elastic can be named apart from the main fibre. When pairs are sold in a pack and the details apply to every pair, they can go once on the pack instead of on each pair, with the country of origin on the front beside the size. Wool socks follow the wool rules, and care instructions are given too. Your broker or counsel can confirm what your goods need.

Do you make socks for children 12 and under?

Yes, quoted only as a children's product. US law treats a sock designed for children 12 and under as a children's product, so a production sample of the exact sock, prints and grips included, goes to a CPSC-accepted lab before the run ships, and the Children's Product Certificate from whoever imports them rests on that lab's report. Tracking marks go on the sock and its pack. No sock we quote carries a pom-pom, bell, bow or sewn-on badge. We do not make socks for babies.

Can the socks match our beanies?

Yes. Order them with your knit beanies and the same yarn colours go into both. The two are signed off side by side, so the navy on the sock is the navy on the beanie.

Can each pair be packed for the shelf with a barcode?

Yes. Each pair can go on a header card or in a band for a peg hook or a shelf, or be boxed as a set, with your barcode or SKU label from your own system. The card or band can carry the label details. All of it goes on the spec sheet.

When should we order socks for next season?

Ask for the quote in spring and sign off the sample over the summer, so the socks can ship with the season's containers. Tell us the day they have to be on your shelves, and we work back to the date the order has to be placed.
