Before you ask
What to specify
The quote is built on the specification you send. These are the choices that decide what gets made and what it costs.
Who owns the poles
City street lights, utility poles and poles on private lots have different owners, and each owner decides what goes on them. Ask before you pick a design: the answer can rule out a size or a kind of mount.
How it mounts
A band strapped round the pole, a bracket bolted to it, or the banner arm that is already there. Tell us which you want, or send photos of the poles and we suggest one for you and the owner to approve.
Photos and measurements
A photo of each kind of pole on the route, with its height and how wide it is where the motif will sit. Poles that look alike often differ from one end of a street to the other.
Size and viewing distance
Whether people see the motifs from the pavement or from a car across the road. That sets the size more than the pole does.
The design
A stock shape, or your own artwork. Your own design starts as a drawing we send back for approval, then a first piece, then the run.
Power at the pole
Whether each pole has an outlet and where it is. It decides the cable each motif needs. Electrical details are settled on the quote, not on this page.
How many, and the date
The pole count, whether every pole gets the same motif, and the night they have to be lit.
Price
What sets the price
We do not publish a unit price, because the honest number depends on your configuration, quantity, destination and the duty rate on the day the goods land. We do publish what moves it.
Motif size
A bigger frame takes more steel and more light, and more room in the crate. Size is usually the first number on a quote to move.
Your design or a stock shape
A motif drawn from your artwork needs its own drawing and a first piece approved before the run. A snowflake or a star does not.
Mounting hardware
Bands, brackets or fittings for the banner arm already on the pole are priced per pole, and which one you need depends on the poles.
How many poles
The drawing and the set-up are paid for once and spread over the run, so a whole street costs less per pole than a handful.
How flat it packs
A flat silhouette packs tight. A piece with depth takes more space in the container, and ocean freight is charged by space.
Duty line and the rate on the entry date
The quote names the tariff line we file the motifs under, the rate it was priced at, and who carries a change before they land.
Itemised on the quote, hidden in a unit price
- Duty at the rate in force on the entry date
- Customs broker and filing fees
- Delivery from the rail ramp or port to your yard
- Putting them up, which your crew or contractor does
- Any engineering review the pole owner asks for
Timing
The date is set on your order
We do not publish a production window for this product. It depends on your design and the quantity, so it comes with the quote, and the calendar for your order is worked back from your date and the ocean transit on your lane.
How the date is set
We build these to your design, so we set the date with you.
- Tell us the design, the quantity and the date they have to be lit.
- We come back with the production window for your order and the date to order by.
- The landed quote follows, itemised line by line.
What goes wrong
Failures we plan against
Common failures
- A motif that looked right in the drawing but reads small on a tall pole
- A bracket that fits the poles at one end of the street and not the other
- Light that looks different from pole to pole because the motifs came from different batches
Buyer mistakes
- Choosing a design before asking the pole owner what it will allow
- Measuring one pole and assuming the rest are the same
- Not asking the install crew how they will reach and fix each piece
Inspection checklist
- A first piece built, lit and photographed before the run starts
- The mount checked against the measurements of every pole type on the list
- Every motif switched on before it is crated
- Hardware counted against the pole list before the container is loaded

How it gets to you
- Shipped by the container from South China, the frames crated flat
- Delivered to a rail ramp or port, or to your yard
- The landed quote lists freight, the customs entry, duty and delivery on their own lines
Who carries duty, and what happens if the rate changes between quote and landing, is stated on every quote. How that works Add up a landed cost
What we do on an order like this
- We turn your artwork or a sketch into a drawing of the motif and its mount, for you and the pole owner to approve.
- We plan the crates and the container around the number of poles on your list.
- We file the customs entry through our broker and name the tariff line on the quote.
Questions
Asked before ordering
Can you decorate a telephone pole or a utility pole?
Only with the owner's permission. Utility and telephone poles usually belong to the utility rather than the city, and the utility decides what can be fixed to them and how. Ask it first. It may want the size and weight of each piece, and we can give you both from the drawing.
Can you make a decoration from our city's seal or logo?
Yes, if the artwork is yours to use. Send the file or a clear photo. We draw it up as a lit frame on its mount and send the drawing back for approval before anything is built.
How big should a pole-mounted decoration be?
It depends on how tall the pole is, how wide the street is and how far away people see it. A motif that looks right on paper can look small on a tall pole seen from across four lanes of traffic. Send the pole height and a photo taken from where people will see it, and the drawing we return shows the motif to scale on the pole.
Are these American-made?
No. They are made in China and imported, and we say so up front. Several US sellers build pole decorations at home, and if domestic manufacture is a condition of your funding or your bid, buy from one of them. If it is not, we are the import option, and the landed quote lets you compare the two on the same terms.
Where do cities and businesses buy commercial pole decorations?
From commercial decor suppliers, not from retail stores. Most sell from a catalogue of stock designs. We build to your design or a stock shape in China, ship by the container and quote the cost delivered to you.
Do you sell used pole-mounted decorations?
No. Everything we supply is built new for the order.
