Before you ask

What to specify

The quote is built on the specification you send. These are the choices that decide what gets made and what it costs.

  • Opening width and clear height

Measure the gap the arch has to cover and the tallest thing that goes under it. People on foot need far less height than a tram, a carriage or a service truck. We draw the arch to the clearance you give us.

  • Gateway or span

A ground-standing gateway arch, or a piece that spans between poles: tell us which you have in mind, with a photo of the site.

  • The ground under it

Grass, paving or a road. How the arch is held down is a question for your site and, on a big arch, for your engineer. Tell us the surface and we draw the base for it.

  • One arch or a row

One arch marks an entrance. A row of them leads people along a path. Say how many, and how far apart.

  • Theme and light

A stock theme or your own artwork, lit steady, chasing or animated. Animation needs a controller and its own power plan, which the quote sets out.

  • Power and the opening night

Where the nearest power is, and the date the arch has to be lit. The calendar on this page works back from that date.

Price

What sets the price

We do not publish a unit price, because the honest number depends on your configuration, quantity, destination and the duty rate on the day the goods land. We do publish what moves it.

Request a quote

  1. Span and height

A wider, taller arch needs heavier steel to stay rigid, and more of it. It also breaks into more sections and fills more crates.

  2. Theme and detail

An outline of stars is quicker to build than a gingerbread house skinned in mesh. The extra detail means more welding and wiring.

  3. Light and animation

Chasing and animated arches need controllers and more cable than steady light.

  4. Base and fixings

Base plates, stakes or ballast fittings are made for the surface the arch stands on, and a big arch needs more of them.

  5. How it breaks down

An arch designed to come apart into flat sections packs tighter, and ocean freight is charged by the space the crates take.

  6. Duty line and the rate on the entry date

The quote names the tariff line we file the arch under, the rate it was priced at, and who carries a change before it lands.

Itemised on the quote, hidden in a unit price

  • Duty at the rate in force on the entry date
  • Customs broker and filing fees
  • Delivery from the rail ramp to your site, with a liftgate or forklift for the crates
  • Assembling and fixing it down on site, which we do not supply
  • Any engineering sign-off your site needs

  1. Drawing approval, deposit and factory booking

What goes wrong

Failures we plan against

Common failures

  • An arch drawn to the width of the path with no room left for its feet
  • Sections that will not line up on site because the joints were never marked
  • Light that looks different from one section to the next

Buyer mistakes

  • Giving the width but not the height of what has to pass under
  • Approving the look before deciding how the arch will be held down
  • Leaving the base until the crates arrive

Inspection checklist

  • A dimensioned drawing with the clear opening marked, signed off before production
  • The arch assembled whole, lit and photographed before it is taken apart for crating
  • Joints numbered to match the assembly drawing
  • Base fittings counted against the drawing and packed with their sections

Shipping and entry

How it gets to you, and our part in it

Request a quote

A container terminal at blue hour, with cranes over the stacked containers

How it gets to you

  • Full containers from South China, each arch broken into sections that crate flat
  • Delivered to a rail ramp, or to your site with a liftgate where one is needed
  • The landed quote lists freight, the customs entry, duty and delivery on their own lines

Who carries duty, and what happens if the rate changes between quote and landing, is stated on every quote. How that works Add up a landed cost

What we do on an order like this

  • We turn a site photo and a measurement into a dimensioned drawing of the arch, with the opening marked.
  • Arches have gone out in our display orders by the container, and we can describe that work without naming anyone.
  • We plan the order back from your opening night, so the arch lands before your crew needs it.

The record

Work like this, described without names

We do not name customers without written permission, and we do not ask them to be references. What we can show is the paperwork.

Ticketed seasonal light attraction

Custom display structures and lighting consumables over six seasons, several containers a year, with the customs entry filed by us each time.

Questions

Asked before ordering

How big can a commercial Christmas arch be?

That depends on the site and how much steel the span needs. Our price lists include a shooting-star arch 10, 20 and 33 feet tall, and other arches are drawn to the opening you give us. Large outdoor arches are built in sections and bolted together on site.

Can vehicles pass under the arch?

If you need them to, say so before the drawing. Tell us the widest and tallest vehicle that will go through, and the drawing shows the clear opening for it. Anything that vehicles pass under should have its base checked for your site, usually by your own engineer.

How is a large arch shipped?

In sections. The frame is designed to come apart into pieces that crate flat, the crates carry the assembly drawing, and your crew bolts the sections back together on site.

Can the arch carry our own design or name?

Yes, if the artwork is yours to use: a shape drawn from your sketch, a park's name over its entrance, or a sponsor's mark on your own project. The drawing comes back to you for approval before anything is built.

Where do businesses buy commercial Christmas arches?

From commercial display suppliers rather than stores. Most sell from a catalogue and some build in the US. We build to your drawing in China, ship by the container and quote the arch delivered to your site, with duty and freight on their own lines.
