Stocking an installation business

If you own the lights you hang, reorder the same bulb each year, so new spares match the ones already on the roofs.

Price

What sets the price

We do not publish a unit price, because the honest number depends on your configuration, quantity, destination and the duty rate on the day the goods land. We do publish what moves it.

Request a quote

  1. LED count and driver type

The biggest cost line inside the bulb. It also decides whether brightness stays even along a run.

  2. Lens: faceted or smooth, and the grade of polycarbonate

A faceted lens costs more to mould. Most commercial rooflines specify it anyway.

  3. Quantity

Set-up is spread across the run. A container of bulbs prices differently from a pallet, and a pallet from a case.

  4. Packaging and labelling

Inner packs and printed labels add cost per bulb. Bulk cartons add almost nothing.

  5. Freight class and container fit

Bulbs are light and take up room, so the ocean cost per bulb is set by cube rather than weight.

  6. Duty line and the rate on the entry date

The rate that applies is the one in force when the goods land. The quote names the tariff line we file under and says who carries a change between quote and landing.

Itemised on the quote, hidden in a unit price

  • Duty at the rate in force on the entry date, not the quote date
  • Customs broker and ISF filing fees
  • Drayage from the rail ramp or port to your yard
  • Unloading labour and pallet exchange at delivery

  1. Drawing approval, deposit and factory booking

  2. Production

  3. Inland to port, export clearance, vessel cut-off

  5. Customs entry, drayage and delivery

Planning allowance. Our broker files the entry. A customs exam adds time that nobody controls.

Ocean transit from our own freight-rate pipeline (Freightos), snapshot 2026-09-03. Production window and allowances are planning estimates; the quote is the commitment. The stages in China leave room for Chinese New Year and China's National Day holiday in October, but each factory sets its own holiday dates. Municipal buyers: add your own procurement lead time in front of the order date.

What goes wrong

Failures we plan against

Common failures

  • Colour temperature drifting between production batches
  • Loose bulbs where the base does not match socket wire from another supplier
  • Water getting in at the lens seam on bulbs not rated for outdoor use

Buyer mistakes

  • Ordering after the factory calendar has filled for the season
  • Mixing bulb batches along one visible run
  • Approving by photo instead of by sample

Inspection checklist

  • A pre-shipment sample set kept and photographed under the same light
  • Colour checked across cartons, not only within one
  • Base fit and torque tested on the socket wire you actually use
  • Carton drop test to the agreed standard before the container is loaded

Shipping and entry

How it gets to you, and our part in it

Request a quote

Stretch-wrapped pallets of export cartons at a factory dock beside a container truck

How it gets to you

  • Full containers from the South China ports; a trial quantity can go as less than a container load
  • Delivered to a port, a rail ramp or your door
  • The landed-cost quote puts ocean freight, the entry, duty and drayage on separate lines

Who carries duty, and what happens if the rate changes between quote and landing, is stated on every quote. How that works Add up a landed cost

What we do on an order like this

  • We keep the specification from your last order, so a reorder is a quantity and a date rather than a new project.
  • We file the entry through our broker and tell you the tariff line we used.
  • We plan the order back from your opening night rather than forward from a factory date.

Questions

Asked before ordering

Do you publish a price?

No. The number depends on the configuration, the quantity, the destination and the duty rate on the day the goods land, so we would rather quote it than guess it. What we do publish is the list of things that move it, so you can see where the cost comes from.

Can I order a sample first?

Yes. Tell us the configuration and we quote a sample run next to the production quantity.

Do you supply the socket wire and plugs as well?

Yes. C9 socket wire and the matching plugs are on the same price list. It is worth ordering them together, so the base fit is tested against the wire you will actually use.

Who pays if the tariff changes between the quote and landing?

The quote says. It names the duty line, the rate we quoted against and which of us carries a change. Nobody finds out from the invoice.
