Before you ask

What to specify

The quote is built on the specification you send. These are the choices that decide what gets made and what it costs.

  • Walk-through or drive-through

People on foot, or cars on a light trail. It sets the width and height of every section, so decide it first.

  • Route and length

How long the run is, and whether the path curves or slopes. A site plan or an aerial photo with the route drawn on it is enough to start.

  • Clearance inside

The clear width and height you need inside. For vehicles, the largest that will use it, service trucks included.

  • Arches or panels

Open arches outlined in light, or shaped panels such as stars. Say how close together they stand: closer reads as one passage of light, and takes more sections.

  • Light

Steady, chasing or animated. Animated runs need controllers, and the quote shows where they sit along the tunnel.

  • Ground, power and opening night

What the tunnel stands on, where the nearest power is, and the night it has to be lit. The calendar on this page works back from that date.

Price

What sets the price

We do not publish a unit price, because the honest number depends on your configuration, quantity, destination and the duty rate on the day the goods land. We do publish what moves it.

Request a quote

  1. Length of the run

Every extra arch or panel adds steel, light and crate space. On a tunnel, length moves the price more than anything else.

  2. Clearance inside

A tunnel that cars drive through needs a much wider and taller opening than one for people on foot, so every section is bigger and heavier.

  3. Spacing

Arches set close together read as one passage of light, but the same length then takes more sections.

  4. Shape and light

Plain arches outlined in LEDs are the quickest to build. Shaped or skinned panels take longer, and chasing or animated runs need controllers and extra cable.

  5. How it packs

Sections that come apart flat or nest inside each other fill fewer crates, and the ocean leg is charged by the space the crates take.

  6. Duty line and the rate on the entry date

The quote names the tariff line the tunnel is filed under, the rate used to price it, and who carries a change before it lands.

Itemised on the quote, hidden in a unit price

  • Duty at the rate in force on the entry date
  • Customs broker and filing fees
  • Trucking from the rail ramp to your site, and a forklift to unload the crates
  • Setting the sections up and fixing them down, which we do not supply
  • Running power from your supply along the length of the tunnel

  1. Drawing approval, deposit and factory booking

  2. Production

Planning allowance for custom steel and lighting work, the same one we use for custom displays and arches. The quote confirms the window for your tunnel once the drawing is approved.

What goes wrong

Failures we plan against

Common failures

  • A tunnel drawn straight for a path that curves or slopes
  • Joints that sag or twist because the run was never put together before crating
  • Light that changes colour from one section to the next

Buyer mistakes

  • Giving the length but not the width and height inside
  • Deciding after the drawing that vehicles will drive through it
  • Leaving power along the run until the week of the install

Inspection checklist

  • A dimensioned drawing with the inside clearance and the route marked, signed off before production
  • Several sections bolted together and lit before crating, to check the joints and the colour match
  • Every section and joint numbered to the assembly drawing
  • Connectors and base fittings counted and packed with their sections

Shipping and entry

How it gets to you, and our part in it

Request a quote

A container terminal at blue hour, with cranes over the stacked containers

How it gets to you

  • By sea in full containers from South China, the tunnel in flat-packed sections
  • Then rail to a ramp near you, and a truck to your site
  • Freight, the customs entry, duty and delivery each priced on their own line of the landed quote

Who carries duty, and what happens if the rate changes between quote and landing, is stated on every quote. How that works Add up a landed cost

What we do on an order like this

  • We draw the tunnel from your site plan and the route it follows, with the inside clearance marked.
  • Tunnels have been part of the display orders we ship by the container, and we can describe that work without naming anyone.
  • We work the order date back from your opening night, so the last section lands before your crew starts.

How we work and how we make money

The record

Work like this, described without names

We do not name customers without written permission, and we do not ask them to be references. What we can show is the paperwork.

Ticketed seasonal light attraction

A light-show attraction, six seasons, multiple containers a year

Custom display structures and lighting consumables over six seasons, several containers a year, with the customs entry filed by us each time.

Available redacted, on request

  • Redacted ISF filings and entry summaries
  • Container booking and routing records

Questions

Asked before ordering

How long can a Christmas light tunnel be?

As long as the route and the budget allow. A tunnel is a run of sections, so its length is a count of arches or panels. Our price lists include a 7-panel star tunnel about 20 feet long. Longer runs are drawn to the site plan you send.

Can cars drive through a light tunnel?

Yes, if the tunnel is drawn for them. A drive-through tunnel needs a wider and taller opening than a walk-through one, so name the largest vehicle that will use it before the drawing starts. How each section is held down is for your site and your engineer to settle.

How is a light tunnel shipped from China?

Broken down into sections that crate flat, numbered to the assembly drawing. The crates go by sea in full containers, then by rail and truck to your site, and the landed quote prices each leg.

What does a quote for a light tunnel include?

The tunnel, the ocean freight, the customs entry, duty at the line it is filed under, and delivery to your site, each on its own line. It also says who carries a change in the duty rate before the goods land.

Where can a business buy a Christmas light tunnel?

From commercial display suppliers. Some build in the US, some import, and most sell set lengths from a catalogue. We are the import option: the tunnel built to your route in China, shipped by the container and quoted landed, so you can set it against a domestic price line by line.
