At a glance

Custom lanyards for season passes, staff and the gift shop

Which lanyard you need depends on its job. A season pass is worn all day, so it needs a clear holder that fits the pass. A staff badge often hangs from a lanyard with a breakaway clasp at the back of the neck, with a holder or a badge reel. A souvenir lanyard is carded for the peg wall, with "Made in China" on the lanyard or its card.

Used for

  • Season passes worn all day in a clear holder at a zoo, a water park, a ski area or a light attraction
  • Staff badges on a lanyard with a breakaway clasp at the back of the neck
  • Souvenir lanyards carded for the gift shop's peg wall, in the same design as the rest of the range
  • Lanyards for an event series, a festival or a conference held at your venue

Bought by

  • Attractions and venues that issue season passes or staff badges
  • Merchandise managers who plan the shop's lanyards with the rest of the season's goods
  • Not a fit: lanyard strap or ribbon by the roll, or a few dozen stock lanyards printed by next week, which a promotional supplier serves better

Materials

  • The webbing named by the factory on the spec, and named the same way on any tag: polyester, nylon or cotton, or a blend named as a blend
  • Clasps, hooks and holders named part by part, metal and plastic
  • Where the webbing and the holder plastic come from, asked before you commit

Options

  • Flat printed, woven-in or full-colour printed webbing, on one side or both
  • A breakaway clasp at the back of the neck
  • A hook, a clip, a key ring, a badge reel or a clear card holder
  • A buckle that lets the lower half come off
  • Colours matched to the Pantone references you send
  • "Made in China" printed on the lanyard or on its retail card

Packaging

  • Bagged by design and count for the staff room
  • Carded one by one with your barcode for the shop
  • Cartons marked with the design, and a packing list for every carton

Lanyards as part of a gift shop range

A souvenir lanyard often hangs beside keychains, cups and plush in the same design. The gift shop merchandise guide covers which items are worth making in your own design, what each one carries before it ships, and how to order the range a season ahead.

Before you ask

Breakaway lanyards, holders and reels: what to specify

These are the fields we ask you for. The factory quotes and makes the lanyards to them, so a fuller sheet brings the first quote closer to the real one.

  • What it is for

A season pass, a staff badge or a souvenir, because the holder, the clasp and the packing all follow from it.

  • Webbing and logo

Printed, woven in or full colour, on one side or both, with colours to Pantone. Each holds detail differently, and the sample shows how yours comes out.

  • Fittings

A hook, clip, key ring, reel or card holder, attached at the factory, because every lanyard is quoted made up.

  • Breakaway clasp

Yes or no, and where it sits. Who wears one is the venue's call.

  • Marks and packing

"Made in China" on the lanyard or the card, your barcode, bagged or carded, because the shop and the staff room need different packs.

  • Designs, quantities and dates

Each design and how many of each, and the day your season opens, because the date works back from it.

Price

What sets the price of custom lanyards in bulk

We do not publish a lanyard price. It turns on the webbing, the logo, the fittings, the packing and how many you order of each design, so you get a landed cost, line by line.

Request a quote

  1. The webbing

The material and how wide and thick the strap is, which sets how much goes into each lanyard.

  2. How the logo goes on

Flat printed, woven in, or printed in full colour, and on one side or both.

  3. How many colours

The colours the artwork carries, each matched to its Pantone reference.

  4. Fittings

The hook, clip, key ring, reel or card holder, and a breakaway clasp or a buckle if you want one.

  5. Packing

Bagged by the count for staff, or carded one by one with a barcode for the shop.

  6. How many of each design

Each design is set up once, and that setup is spread over every lanyard in the run.

  7. Landing at your venue

Ocean freight, the customs entry and delivery to your door, each on its own line of the quote.

Itemised on the quote, hidden in a unit price

  • The setup for each new design, and a woven pattern drawn up for the loom
  • A pre-production sample, if the quote includes one, and any rework before you approve it
  • Retail cards, bags and barcode labels, if the lanyards go straight onto the peg wall
  • The broker's fees for the customs entry, and delivery from the port

Timing

Work back from your season's first day

We do not publish a production window for lanyards. Plan them with the season: the quote and the artwork early, the sample signed off before the passes are printed, and the lanyards shipped with the season's other goods. Tell us the day the gates open, and we work back from it.

How the date is set

The date your order has to be placed comes from the day your season opens.

  1. Tell us the lanyards, the quantity and the day they have to be at your venue.
  2. We work back through the artwork, the sample, the run, the cards, the cartons and the crossing, and tell you the date the order has to be placed.
  3. The landed quote follows, itemised line by line.

How we work, step by step

What goes wrong

Before the first order: how they are made up, and how they are entered

Two things are settled before anything is made. First, every lanyard is quoted made up, with its clasp and holder attached; we do not supply strap or ribbon by the roll. Second, before the first order of each lanyard, your customs broker reviews how it will be entered and puts that view in writing, and it goes into the landed quote. Lanyards are quoted for general use. A lanyard sized or themed for younger wearers is quoted only as a children's product, with a report from a CPSC-accepted lab on the exact lanyard.

Common failures

  • A print that cracks or fades on the first busy weekend
  • A card holder that is the wrong size for the season pass
  • A breakaway clasp that parts when nobody pulls it, or one that never parts
  • Colours that drift from the Pantone references on the approved proof
  • No "Made in China" on the shop's lanyards, found only when the cartons arrive
  • Hooks that open under the weight of a set of keys

Buyer mistakes

  • A holder chosen before the pass is designed, so the two don't match
  • Fine lettering in the artwork that the weave or the print cannot hold at strap width
  • A team's, character's or sponsor's mark on the artwork without its owner's written approval

Inspection checklist

  • The run checked against the approved proof or sample: the colours, the logo and the fittings
  • Breakaway clasps pulled apart by hand on lanyards taken from the run
  • A season pass dropped into holders from every carton
  • "Made in China" found on shop lanyards or their cards from every carton
  • Carton counts and marks checked, and photos taken before the cartons are sealed

Shipping and entry

Request a quote

How it gets to you

  • Shipped by sea from China in cartons, on their own or in one shipment with the rest of your order
  • Lanyards often travel with the shop's other merchandise, or with a light attraction's season of lights
  • A customs broker files the entry when the shipment lands
  • Delivered from the port to your venue, warehouse or shop

Each step of the landing is priced on your lanyards and set out on the quote. How that works Add up a landed cost

What we do on an order like this

  • We turn your artwork, the job each lanyard does and the fittings it needs into a spec sheet that the factory quotes and works to.
  • Every lanyard is quoted made up, with its clasp and holder attached. We do not supply lanyard strap or ribbon by the roll.
  • Before the first order, your customs broker reviews how the lanyards will be entered and puts that view in writing, and it goes into the landed quote.
  • You approve the proof, and the sample if the quote includes one. We check the run against it before it is packed, import the lanyards and deliver them to you.

How we work and how we make money

Questions

Asked before ordering custom lanyards

Where can we get custom lanyards made with our logo?

Promotional suppliers print a logo on stock lanyards and ship them soon, which suits a one-off event. Lanyards made to your own design, with the holder, clasp and packing your venue needs, are made to order, which suits a venue that plans its season ahead. We run that second route with factories in China, import the lanyards and deliver them to you with the rest of your merchandise.

How much do custom lanyards cost?

It depends on the webbing, how the logo goes on, the number of colours, the fittings, a breakaway clasp, the packing, how many you order of each design, and the freight and customs entry. We do not publish a lanyard price. The quote puts each of those on its own line, and the landed cost calculator on this site adds them up.

What is a breakaway lanyard, and who should wear one?

A breakaway lanyard has a plastic clasp at the back of the neck that parts under a hard pull. Venues often choose them for staff who work near rides or machinery, and sometimes for everyone who wears a pass. Who wears one is your decision. Pull the clasp apart by hand on the sample before you sign it off, and we pull clasps from the run too.

Printed, woven-in or full-colour: which should we choose?

A flat printed lanyard carries a logo in a few solid colours on smooth webbing. A woven-in lanyard has the logo woven into the strap itself, so it has texture and suits a bold, simple mark. A full-colour printed lanyard carries gradients and photos. Each one holds fine detail differently, and the sample shows how your artwork comes out.

Can the season pass holder come attached?

Yes. The card holder, badge reel or clip is attached at the factory, so your passes drop straight in. Send us the pass size before the holder is chosen.

Can lanyards be packed for our gift shop?

Yes. Souvenir lanyards can be carded one by one with a hang hole, your barcode and "Made in China" on the lanyard or its card. Staff lanyards are bagged by design and count instead.

Can lanyards be made as a children's product?

Only as a children's product, with the paperwork a children's product needs: a report from a CPSC-accepted lab on the exact lanyard, the importer's own paperwork, and tracking marks on each one. Tell us before we quote. If there is no report, we do not go ahead.

Can you supply lanyard strap by the roll?

No. Every lanyard is quoted made up, with its clasp and holder attached. We do not supply strap, webbing or ribbon by the roll or in cut lengths.
