Custom souvenir magnets in wood, resin, metal, acrylic or PVC
Every magnet we quote is a rigid piece with a small magnet set into the back. Wood is engraved or printed, for a simple outline with a natural look. Cast resin is moulded in relief and painted by hand, for a sculpted landmark, animal or mascot. Metal carries enamel colours between raised lines, for a crisp logo in a few flat colours. Custom acrylic magnets are cut to your outline and printed in full colour. PVC is moulded soft, in layers of flat colour. A wooden bottle-opener magnet has a steel opener set into it. Each carries "Made in China" on the back. Flat magnets printed on flexible magnet sheet are a print shop's product, and we do not quote them.
Used for
- Fridge magnets on the counter or the spinner rack of the gift shop at a zoo, an aquarium, a museum, a ski area or a Christmas light attraction
- Your skyline, your mascot or your animal cut to its own outline, sold beside the shop's cups and plush of the same design
- A season edition: the same shape every year, with new artwork or a new date

Bought by

Magnets as part of a gift shop range
Souvenir magnets often sit beside cups, beanies and plush in the same design. The gift shop merchandise guide covers which items are worth making in your own design, what each one carries before it ships, and how to order the range a season ahead.
Before you ask
The spec sheet we send the factory
These are the fields we ask you for. The factory draws, quotes and makes the magnets to them, so a fuller sheet brings the first quote closer to the real one.
Material
Engraved or printed wood for a natural look, cast resin for a sculpted shape, metal with enamel for a crisp logo, printed acrylic for full-colour artwork, moulded PVC for a soft, rounded shape, or a wooden bottle-opener magnet.
Artwork, outline and size
Your logo, mascot or skyline file, its colours by Pantone reference, and the outline it is cut to. The factory draws it to size, and you check the drawing before the mould is made.
The magnet
A rigid ferrite or neodymium magnet, set into the back and bonded, sized to the weight of the piece. The sample is tried on a steel door before you sign it off. We do not quote flexible magnet sheet.
Wood and the opener
For wood, the species and the country where it was harvested, from the factory. For a bottle-opener magnet, the metal of the opener.
Marks on the back
"Made in China", engraved, printed or moulded, and your name or the season if you want them.
Materials in writing
The factory's written declaration on what is in its paints, its coatings and its PVC, and where its PVC and steel come from.
Retail packing
Carded or bagged one by one, or boxed by design, with your barcode, UPC or SKU label from your own system.
Designs and quantities
Each design and colour, how many of each, and whether it is a season edition or a design you keep.
Approvals
The drawing, a pre-production sample if the quote includes one, and who signs off.
Dates and delivery
The day the magnets must be on the rack, the delivery address, and whether there is a loading dock.
Whose marks
Written authorisation for every logo on the artwork. A team's, park's or sponsor's mark goes on only with its owner's written approval.
Price
What sets the price of a custom fridge magnet
We do not publish a magnet price. It turns on the material, the size, the colours, the magnet, the packing and how many you order of each design, so you get a landed cost, line by line.
The material
Wood, cast resin, metal with enamel, acrylic or PVC, or a wooden piece with a steel opener set into it.
Size and thickness
How big the magnet is and how thick, which sets how much material goes into each one and how strong its magnet has to be.
Colours and finish
How many paint, enamel or print colours the artwork carries, and whether the wood is engraved, printed or both.
The magnet
Ferrite or neodymium, and its size, matched to the weight of the piece.
Packing
Loose by the carton, bagged, carded one by one with a barcode, or boxed by design.
How many of each design
Each design is set up once, with a mould for resin, metal and PVC, and that setup is spread over every magnet in the run.
Landing at your shop
Ocean freight, the customs entry and delivery to your door, each on its own line of the quote.
Itemised on the quote, hidden in a unit price
- The mould or setup for each new design
- A pre-production sample, if the quote includes one, and any rework before you approve it
- Backing cards, bags and barcode labels, if the magnets go straight onto the rack
- The broker's fees for the customs entry, and delivery from the port
Timing
Work back from your season's first day
We do not publish a production window for magnets. Plan them with the season: the quote in spring, the artwork signed off over the summer, and the magnets shipped with the season's containers. A season edition keeps the shape and changes the artwork, and the quote says whether the mould carries over from your last order.
How the date is set
The date your order has to be placed comes from the day the magnets have to be on your rack.
- Tell us the magnets, the quantity and the day they have to be in your shop.
- We work back through the drawing, the mould, the sample if there is one, the run, the cards, the cartons and the crossing, and tell you the date the order has to be placed.
- The landed quote follows, itemised line by line.
What goes wrong
Before the run: the magnet, the wood and the back
Three things go on the spec sheet before anything else. First, the magnet: a rigid magnet set into a recess and bonded, sized to the piece, tried on a steel door on the sample, and pulled by hand on pieces from every carton. Second, the materials: for wood, the species and the country where it was harvested, and for every piece, the factory's written declaration on what is in its paints, its coatings and its PVC. Third, the back: "Made in China" engraved, printed or moulded where it lasts, never a loose sticker. As general information, your broker or counsel can confirm what your goods need.
Common failures
- A magnet that comes loose because it was glued onto the back rather than set into a recess
- A magnet too weak for a heavy piece, so the piece slides down the fridge door
- Paint or enamel colours that drift from the Pantone references on the approved proof
- "Made in China" on a sticker that peels off, found once the magnets are on the rack
- Wood that cracks because it was cut before it was properly dried
- A wood species nobody can name, found when the customs entry is being filed
Buyer mistakes
- Fine lines and small lettering in the artwork that the engraving, the enamel or the paint cannot hold at magnet size
- No barcode plan, so the magnets get carded and labelled by hand in the stockroom
- A team's, park's or sponsor's mark on the artwork without its owner's written approval
Inspection checklist
- The run checked against the approved proof or sample: the outline, the colours and the finish
- Magnets from every carton pulled by hand to check they are seated and bonded
- "Made in China" found on the backs of magnets from every carton
- Cards and barcodes checked against your shop's instructions
- Carton counts and marks checked, and photos taken before the cartons are sealed

How it gets to you
- Shipped by sea from China in cartons, on their own or in one shipment with the rest of your order
- Magnets often travel with other merchandise, or with a light attraction's season of lights
- A customs broker files the entry when the shipment lands
- Delivered from the port to your shop, warehouse or venue, with or without a loading dock
Each step of the landing is priced on your magnets and set out on the quote. How that works Add up a landed cost
What we do on an order like this
- We turn your artwork, your choice of material and the way you sell it into a spec sheet that the factory quotes and works to.
- Before you commit, we ask the factory to name every material, the magnet and, for wood, the species and where it was harvested. We also ask it to put in writing what is in its paints, its coatings and its PVC.
- Your logo goes on only with your written authorisation, and any other mark only with its owner's.
- You approve the proof, and the sample if the quote includes one. We check the run against it before it is packed, import the magnets and deliver them to you.
Questions
Asked before ordering custom fridge magnets
Where can I get custom fridge magnets made?
There are two routes. A print shop prints your design on flat magnet stock and ships it soon, which suits an event or a mailing. A souvenir magnet in your own shape and material, made in wood, resin, metal, acrylic or PVC and packed for your shop, is made to order, which suits a gift shop that plans its season months ahead. We run that second route with factories in China, import the magnets and deliver them to you.
How much does a custom fridge magnet cost?
It depends on the material, the size, how many colours the artwork carries, the magnet, the packing, how many you order of each design, and the freight and customs entry. We do not publish a magnet price. The quote puts each of those on its own line, and the landed cost calculator on this site adds them up.
What are souvenir magnets made of?
Custom souvenir magnets come in five main materials. Wood is engraved or printed, and suits a simple outline with a natural look. Cast polyresin is moulded in relief and painted by hand, so it suits a sculpted landmark, animal or mascot. Die-cast metal carries enamel colours between raised lines, for a crisp logo in a few flat colours. Acrylic is cut to your outline and printed in full colour. PVC is moulded soft, in layers of flat colour. Each is a rigid piece with a magnet set into the back.
How strong is the magnet, and how does it stay on?
A small rigid ferrite or neodymium magnet is set into a recess in the back of the piece and bonded there, and it is sized to the weight of the piece, so a heavy resin piece gets a stronger magnet than a thin acrylic one. The sample is tried on a steel door before you sign it off, and magnets from every carton of the run are pulled by hand before it is packed.
Can you make a bottle-opener fridge magnet?
Yes. A wooden piece in walnut, beech or acacia with a steel opener set into it, your design engraved above the opener and a magnet in the back. The spec names the wood and the metal of the opener. Try the sample on a real bottle cap before you sign it off.
What has to be on the back of a souvenir magnet?
As general information: US rules ask for an imported article to be marked with its country of origin, legibly and permanently. On a souvenir magnet that usually means "Made in China" engraved, printed or moulded on the back, not a loose sticker, and it matters most when a town or place name is on the front. Every logo on the artwork needs its owner's written authorisation. Your broker or counsel can confirm what your goods need.
Can you print our design on flexible magnet sheet?
No. We quote rigid souvenir magnets only, each a solid piece with a small magnet set into the back. We do not quote flexible magnet sheet, printed or plain. Flat magnets for business cards, calendars or cars are a print shop's product.
When should we order magnets for next season?
Ask for the quote in spring and sign off the artwork over the summer, so the magnets can ship with the season's containers. Tell us the day they have to be on your rack, and we work back to the date the order has to be placed.
Can the magnets ship with our other merchandise?
Yes. Magnets can share a shipment with your cups, beanies, plush or other goods, or with a light attraction's season of lights. Each design gets its own carton marks and packing list, so your stockroom can check them in.
